Shekosh (woreda)

Shekosh is one of the 47 woredas in the Somali Region of Ethiopia. Part of the Korahe Zone, Shekosh is bordered on the south by Kebri Dahar, on the north by the Degehabur Zone, and on the east by the Werder Zone. The major town in Shekosh is Shekosh.

The only perennial river in Shekosh is the Fafen. This woreda is primarily inhabited by the Darod clan of the Somali people.

Based on figures published by the Central Statistical Agency in 2005, this woreda has an estimated total population of 31,338, of whom 17,544 were males and 13,794 were females; 18.05% or Shekosh of its population are urban dwellers, which is less than the Zone average of 18.2%. Information is not available on the area of Shekosh, so its density cannot be calculated. Schools

There are two primary schools in Shekosh, one of the schools had built by the Emperor Haile Selesie’s regime in 1974, the Emperor had chosen to build two Schools in that year for the Somali Ogaden people and other one is in Shillabo district. The second school has decided to build and scheduled by the Somali Ogaden regional parliamentary in 1994. They planned college to be the main education provider in the Somali Ogaden to provide studies students from eight regions at secondary level of education. The committee behind the setting the college intended the college to give education and shelter more than 1500 students. The Netherlands government donated money to build this College and guarantee to give educational facility the college for the sake of the Somali Ogaden people.

Completion of the college building the Ethiopian government decided changing the preplan of the college. Then, disagreement had arisen between the project donor and the government. The work activities of the College being halt an eleven consecutive year’s clearly then donor realized that an uncared policy to the Somali Ogaden Nation later accepted government.
