John Cannis (born November 4, 1951) is a member of the House of Commons in Canada.

Born in Kalymnos, Greece, he was raised and educated in Toronto, Ontario. He was first elected as a Liberal candidate in the 1993 election in the riding of Scarborough Centre. He was re-elected in the 1997, 2000, 2004 and 2006 elections

From 1999 to 2001, he was the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Industry.

In 2004, when the Khadr family returned to Canada, they were met by a loud wave of public sentiment in favour of revoking their citizenship and deporting them. Cannis, as the Member of Parliament for their region, called for the entire family to be charged under the Canadian Anti-Terrorism Act for "aiding a terrorist organization with which Canada is at war", [CTV, [http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/scfcn/CTVNews/20040417/khadr_mp_040416/Canada/ MP wants Khadrs charged under anti-terror laws] , April 17, 2004] although Prime Minister Paul Martin responded by saying that the Khadrs "'have a right to their own opinions". [CBC, [http://www.cbc.ca/canada/story/2004/04/16/khadr040416.html Liberal MP calls for charges against Khadrs] , April 16, 2004]

He and his wife Mary, have three children, Irene, Paul, and Daniel.
