Writers, poets and critics

The preponderance of Stephanians in Indo-Anglian writing was so great for some time that some critics began to speak of the "St. Stephen's School of Literature". This issue has been heavily debated in the book "The Fiction of St. Stephen's", by various writers and scholars, including Amitav Ghosh, Shashi Tharoor, Upamanyu Chatterjee, Mukul Kesavan, Khushwant Singh, Tapan Basu, Brinda Bose, etc. The book is edited by Aditya Bhattacharjea and Lola Chatterjee.

Infamous

*Moninder Singh Pandher, accused serial killer. St. Stephen's has claimed, however, that he obtained admission into College but did not join.
*Jagat Singh, former Congress M.L.A Rajasthan accused by a U.N. Independent Enquiry Committee (popularly known as the Paul Volcker Committee) as a beneficiary of illegal payoffs from the United Nation’s Oil for Food Programme in Iraq. His father Natwar Singh had to resign from Cabinet as India’s Foreign Minister and also lost membership from the Congress Working Committee due to the allegations.
