Hispanic and Latino American politics

Hispanic and Latino Americans have received a growing share of the national vote by their growing number. They have traditionally been a Democratic constituency, in the main. Republicans and Democrats

Most Cuban Americans tend to favor conservative political ideologies and support the Republicans, while Mexicans, Puerto Ricans, and Dominicans lean towards the Democrats. As the latter groups are far more numerous (Mexican Americans alone are 64% of Hispanics) [cite web |url=http://pewhispanic.org/files/factsheets/hispanics2006/Table-5.pdf |title=Detailed Hispanic Origin: 2006 |accessdate=2008-05-16 |format=PDF |publisher=Pew Hispanic Center] , the Democratic Party is considered to be in a far stronger position among Hispanics overall. The U.S. Census indicates that the Hispanic population of the United States is the fastest growing ancestral/national origin group in the country, and will hold considerable political clout within the next 50 years.cite web |url=http://www.census.gov/Press-Release/www/releases/archives/population/011910.html |title=US Census Press Releases |accessdate=2008-05-16 |publisher=United States Census Bureau]

In the 2006 mid-term Congressional elections, 8% of voters again identified themselves as Hispanic or Latino, and voted Democrat over Republican by 70%–30% (based on CNN exit poll).
