Kajiwara Kagesue

Kajiwara Kagesue (梶原景季) was a samurai in service to the Minamoto clan during the Genpei War of Japan's late Heian period.

He is most famous for his friendly competition with Sasaki Takatsuna at the second battle of Uji, mounted atop Shogun Yoritomo's black horse, Surusumi; he and Sasaki raced across the River Uji on their horses. Supposedly, Kajiwara was ahead at first, but paused when Sasaki told him his saddle had come untied; Sasaki then went on to cross the river ahead of him.
