Tokuyama, Yamaguchi

Tokuyama, Yamaguchi

nihongo|Tokuyama|徳山市|Tokuyama-shi was a city located in Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan. On April 21, 2003 Tokuyama merged with the city of Shinnan'yō, Yamaguchi and the towns of Kumage and Kano to form the new city of Shūnan.

The city had a population of about 150,000 people. Its location along the Sanyō Shinkansen made for easy access to nearby cities such as Hiroshima and Fukuoka. Hikari holds a sizable beach.

The city had a small offering of festivals throughout the year. The most popular was the Christmas Tree Festival, where the city fills the trees along Miyuki Dori with Christmas lights and plays Christmas carols from 6-10 p.m. each night. On December 23-25, food stalls filled the sidewalks, offering grilled meats, beer, cotton candy, candied fruit, and small-scale carnival games.
