USNS Lone Jack (T-AO-161)

The USNS Lone Jack (T-AO-161) was originally a type T2 tanker, more specifically a T2-SE-A1. The ship was built at Sun Shipbuilding and Drydock Co. in Chester, PA as hull number 450 and USMC number 1783 in 1944. At that time, it was the "SS Lone Jack" and was owned by Cities Service Oil Co. The Lone Jack was placed in the National Defense Reserve Fleet in 1956 and was activated later that year. It was transferred to the MSTS in 1957.

From then, the ship was operated under General Agency Agreement by Marine Transport Lines, Inc., of New York City. From January to October 1957 she carried oil shipments from ports in the Persian Gulf to American bases in Japan and the western Pacific. In October 1957, the Lone Jack entered the Maritime Reserve Fleet. In 1966, the ship was transferred to the Army for use as a floating power station along the coast of South Vietnam.
