- IUAES
The IUAES is the International Union of Anthropological and Ethnological Sciences, the largest world forum of
anthropologist s andethnologist s. Its international Congress meets every five years in different countries, and includesbiological anthropology ,social anthropology ,cultural anthropology ,archaeology ,linguistic anthropology ,medical anthroppology ,ethnology , andfolkloristics . The IUAES was founded under the guidance ofUNESCO in 1948. The then-separate International Congress of Anthropological and Ethnological Sciences had been founded inLondon in 1934. Kunming ,China for July 15-23, 2008, but was postponed ten weeks before the Congress was supposed to start. Although the actual date of the announcement came on May 13, one day after the2008 Sichuan earthquake , discussion among the various officials through memos, later circulated on the internet, showed the decision was made in the week before.
