Andy Hill (footballer)

Andrew Rowland "Andy" Hill (born 20 January 1965 in Maltby, Yorkshire, England) is a retired English football defender.

On leaving school in 1981, he began an apprenticeship at Manchester United. He played in the youth side that finished FA Youth Cup runners-up to Watford in 1982. He later signed as a professional but never got a first-team game, and on 4 July 1984 he signed for Fourth Division Bury. He played 317 matches and scoring 12 goals for the Gigg Lane club, also winning promotion to the Third Division in 1985, and towards the end of his time at the club he was captain of the first team.

He signed for Manchester City in a £200,000 deal on 22 March 1991 and scored 6 goals in 85 games, before joining Port Vale. He stayed at Vale Park for three seasons, playing more than 100 games before he retired at the end of the 1997-98 season.
