Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts

The Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts, or MoCADA, is a museum of contemporary art by black artists in the New York City borough of Brooklyn. Its mission is to raise the visibility of black artists with the intention of engaging and educating the people of Brooklyn.

History

MoCada was founded in 1999 by its current Executive Director, Laurie Cumbo, in the historically black Brooklyn neighborhood of Bedford-Stuyvesant with private money and a grant from New York City's department of cultural affairs.

In 2006 MoCADA moved to an expanded space in Fort Greene, a historically black middle-class neighborhood in Brooklyn which is home to the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) arts district.
