Christopher Willoughby, 10th Baron Willoughby de Eresby

Christopher Willoughby, 10th Baron Willoughby de Eresby

Sir Christopher Willoughby, 10 Baron Willoughby de Eresby (1453 – between 1 November 1498 and 13 July 1499) was an English baron.

Life

He was the son of Sir Robert Willoughby of Parham (died 1465) and Cicely Welles, daughter of Lionel de Welles, 6th Baron Welles, and Margaret Beauchamp of Bletso. Cicely Welles was the half sister of Lady Margaret Beaufort, the mother of King Henry VII of England. His father was the son of Sir Thomas Willoughby (son of William Willoughby, 5th Baron Willoughby de Eresby, and Lucy Le Strange) and Lady Joan FitzAlan (daughter of Sir Richard FitzAlan and his wife Alice).

Comment : It is not Physically possible for Cicely Welles (or De Welles) as Christopher's mother to be the daughter of Margaret Beaucuchamp of Bletsoe. Margaret Beaufort the alleged half sister is given elsewhere as b.31st May 1443. Margaret's marriage to Lionel has been given as late as 14th Apr 1447, and John De Beaufort her 2nd husbands death as 27th May 1444. So she must have been born to Lionel De Welles 1st Wife Cecily or Cecelia Waterton probably circa 1431

In 1475, he inherited the barony of Willoughby de Eresby from his cousin. He was succeeded by his son William.

Family

Before 28 March 1482, he married Margaret or Marjery Jenney, daughter of Sir William Jenney of Knodishall and Theberton (- 1483) and Elizabeth Cawse, paternal granddaughter of John Jenney of Knodishall (- 1460) and Matilda Bokell. They had eleven children together, six sons and five daughters:
