Lovejoy Independent School District is a public
school district in Collin County,Texas (USA).The Lovejoy Independent School District is located at 259 Country Club Rd., Allen, TX. Lovejoy ISD is about 25 miles north of Dallas in the fast developing region of central Collin County. The district covers the area of approximately 19 square miles, bound by Plano ISD on the south, Allen ISD on the west, and McKinney ISD on the north. Lovejoy ISD is currently responsible for the education of over 2,500 students. Since 1917 Lovejoy has served the residents of Fairview, Lucas, and other surrounding neighborhoods.
The district was founded in 1917 from the consolidation of the Forest Grove and Lick Springs schools; its name is taken from Mrs. J.L. Lovejoy, a local resident who was a strong proponent of educational causes.
In 2000, Lovejoy ISD opened its second elementary school, Joe V. Hart Elementary. Until fall 2006, the district operated as a K-6 program; all middle and high school (grades 7 through 12) students attended a neighboring district. In fall 2006, after a successful bond election, Lovejoy High School opened for grades 6 through 9. In the 2008-09 school year, Lovejoy ISD will serve students in grades K-11. Students in grades K-5 will attend one of the three elementary schools. The elementary schools include Lovejoy Elementary, Hart Elementary, and the newest elementary, Puster Elementary, which will open in August of 2008. Students in grades 6-8 will attend Sloan Creek Middle School. Students in grades 9 through 11 will attend Lovejoy High School.
The transition plan for Lovejoy ISD is to add a grade level each year until 2009-10, when the district will serve children in grades K through 12. The Class of 2010 will be the first high school graduating class in the history of Lovejoy Independent School District.
In 2007, Lovejoy ISD was one of only 27 Exemplary Districts in the entire state of Texas. This Exemplary rating, the highest given by the Texas Education Agency, placed Lovejoy ISD into the top 2% of districts in Texas. Lovejoy ISD is the only district in Collin County, TX with the Exemplary rating.
