- Left Democrats (Sweden)
Left Democrats (in Swedish: "Vänsterdemokraterna") is a
political party inSweden .The party was formed on
March 28 ,2004 when the local branch of the Left Party inGnesta voted to leave the mother party. The move followed an internal power struggle between the right-wing and left-wing factions of the party that culminated with the election of
Lars Ohly as party leader in early 2004, a resounding victory for the left-wing.The party holds on to the two seats in the Gnesta municipal assembly.
The mother party did however rapidly refound a branch in Gnesta, larger than the pre-split branch. 6 party members had left to form 'Vänsterdemokraterna' whereas the new refounded branch assembled 7 members.
'Vänsterdemokraterna' was later, at a meeting in
Stockholm onJanuary 29 2006 , constituted as a nation-wide party with ambitions to contest the 2006 parliamentary elections. The party board of the new party became
