The New Hamburg Metro-North Railroad station serves the residents of the Wappingers Falls, New York and the Town of Poughkeepsie, New York via the Hudson Line. Trains leave for New York City every hour on weekdays, and about every 25 minutes during rush hour. It is 65 miles (105 km) from Grand Central Terminal and travel time to Grand Central is approximately one hour, 36 minutes.

New Hamburg is notable as the station is one of the few in the Metro-North system to have closed and reopened; the original New Hamburg station was closed by the New York Central in the 1960s and was reopened in the early 1980s after the MTA took over the line. Another notable fact about the station is that the distance between it and Poughkeepsie — 8.5 miles (13.7 km) — is the longest such distance between stations on the Hudson Line (on any Metro-North main line, in fact) and the third-longest systemwide.

It is also notable as the only station on the Hudson Line that does not have an overpass of any kind to connect either the two platforms or the platform and the parking lot. Instead, passengers use a tunnel under the tracks.

The New Hamburg station bisects the hamlet's Main Street. Old photographs show a grade crossing used to exist here; since the line was doubletracked in 1928, however, getting from one end of Main Street to the other has required a detour via nearby Bridge Street. Another bridge further north on Reed Road is the only other crossing in the hamlet.

Platform and track configuration

This station has two high-level side platforms each six cars long. The western platform, adjacent to Track 2, is generally used by southbound or inbound or Manhattan-bound trains. The eastern platform, adjacent to Track 1, is generally used by northbound or outbound trains. The Hudson Line has two tracks at this location.
