USAT Argentina

USAT Argentina

USAT "Argentina" sometimes called the SS "Argentina" is a ship that was built in 1929 by the Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock Company. The ship was originally named SS "Pennsylvania" as a luxury liner and launched 10 July 1929.

Early in 1942 the ship was taken over by the United States War Shipping Administration and refitted as a United States Army Transport (troop transport) Ship.

On July 1, 1942 the ship left the New York Port of Embarkation for Greenock, Scotland, entering into troop transport service for the first time.

After World War II was over, the USAT "Argentina" resumed liner service.

The ship was sold for scrap in 1964.
