Kosi Kalan is a city and a municipal board in Mathura district in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.

Kosi Kalan is a beautiful town situated in BrijBhoomi. Town was named Kosi for being treasury of NandBaba (as Kosh means Treasure). This small town is a hub of cultural and commercial activities.

Demographics

As of 2001 India census [GR|India] , Kosi Kalan had a population of 45,684. Males constitute 54% of the population and females 46%. Kosi Kalan has an average literacy rate of 51%, lower than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 59%, and female literacy is 41%. In Kosi Kalan, 18% of the population is under 6 years of age.

This place is popularly known because of the Kosi Pond (ek talab) and persons like Anuj Agrawal,Amrit Shahi,Jay Prakash and many more including the martyr of assembly attack Mr.Ghanshyam singh .There is no need to tell more about them.The film Jeene Doo is shooted here because of the famous Pond. Near by kosi there is very famous sani temple{ kokilavan} from north india people come worship .

During her swearing-in ceremony, on 18th Nov 2006, Shri Babulal Agrawal while addressing the pubilc gathering suffered a cardiac arrest and expired. He was of 82 years (Date of Birth: 23 May 1924). Shri Babulal Agrawal was connected with multiple social organizations like Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Ramlila Sansthan, Srikrishna Gaushala. His funeral was attended by thousands of people. Shri Babulal Agrawal was a true social worker and did lot of good work for Kosi Kalan during his chairmanship. He did manage the whole city with incredible leadership by taking even his opponents with him.
