Demographics
As of 2001 Indiacensus [GR|India] , Kirandul had a population of 19,053. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Kirandul has an average literacy rate of 72%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 80%, and female literacy is 64%. In Kirandul, 11% of the population is under 6 years of age.Kirandul and Baster-region in general has been a home for the aboriginal People (Mama-Muria) for a very long time.
History
In 1940s and 1950s, a Japanese team came to Kirandul to verify the quality of Iron Ore (Hematite)Later on, National Mineral Development, with help of Japan set up the first iron ore plant in Kirandul (Deposit 14)http://www.nmdc.co.in/bailadia14.asp

The mines and the plants have created employment and have modernized the lives of the aboriginal Mama-Muria Tribes. The Tribal people get free medical care at BIOP Hospital from world class doctors and staff. Tribal people are simple and smart. They are offered jobs under the schedule tribes category with the Government. Some tribes have remained Hindu. Over time, many tribals have converted to Christianity. Culture
Many engineers, doctors, teachers and traders moved to Kirandul. Hindi is the prime language of communication. English is also spoken. Other national languages such as Bengali, Malayalam, Telegu, Punjabi, Gujrati, Marathi, Marwari, Kannada, Oriya and Bihari are also spoken in small communities. Chattishgari is very popular. It is a variation of Hindi.
Religion
Kirandul falls in Dandakarenya region. Lord Rama, Goddess Sita and Lakshman (Ji) stayed in many places in Dandakarenya (like Chitrakoot). Kirandul is in the Dantewara District. There is also a Town called Dantewara about 50 km from Kirandul. Dantewara has a temple known as Danteshwari. This was the place where Goddess Sati's teethwas found. Also near the temple there is a big slab where footmarks of Lord Rama are marked in a stone. It is believed that someone created it when Lord Rama came there. It is also documented in Ramayana that Lord Rama loved the Dandakarenya forest life more than any other place he lived.
Chattisgarhi People are great devotees of Lord Rama and Mother Sita. They are known to celebrate Ganesh Puja, Ramalila, Dusshera, Deepawali, Holi, Janamashthami and other festivals. Bengalis celebrate Durga Puja (Bengali Cultural Association). There are other associations like Andhra Association, Kerala Association and Chatthisgarhi club. There is a Rama Temple, Kali Temple, Shiva Temple, two Churches, and a Mosque.
