FK Sutjeska is a Montenegrin football club from Nikšić, founded in 1927. They are one of the two Montenegrin clubs (alongside FK Buducnost) with a high regional reputation and great traidition, although the club failed to maintain that standard during the recent seasons. Sutjeska is also notable for their export of talent, with players like the Montenegrin superstar and A.S. Roma striker Mirko Vucinic, the current international goalkeeper Vukasin Poleksic and the retired FK Partizan hitman Damir Cakar all hailing from the club's youth system.

Recent Seasons

The Niksic side did not impress many pundits in the inaugural 2006/07 season, but they still managed to progress to the cup final, where they lost 2-1 to high-flying FK Rudar Pljevlja. They were thus denied a spot in the European competitions for the next season.

During the 2007/08 season, the club sunk even lower and struggled to survive in the first division. Eventually they ended up having to play their smaller neighbours and rivals, FK Celik, in the relegation play-offs. They kept their first division status thanks to a single goal scored at home. Due to a poor state of affairs in the club, the entire board of directors was disbanded at the end of the season by the city officials. The new board took over control during a season break, and started to invest in rebuilding the club's reputation and playing suqad. Ratko Vukotic became the president, while Andrija Vujovic took over the director of football role. This included the change of managers, as Brajan Nenezic was replaced by Nikola Rakojevic, who had a very successful season with FK Lovcen.

Season 2008/09 saw a number of former Sutjeska players return to their home ground to bolster the squad's ambitions for the new season. This included two former high-profile players, the talented striker Krsto Zvicer and former team captain Drazen Medjedovic. Although the much talked-about transfer of striker Ivan Jablan, Rakojevic's favorite from FK Lovcen and last season's second-best goalscorer failed to materialize in the end, Sutjeska had a competent team and this immediately showed in the opening rounds of the season.
