Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania ,Germany . It is situated on the right bank of theElbe , 53 km west ofLudwigslust , 25 km northeast ofLüneburg and 50 km east ofHamburg .Boizenburg is just a few kilometers inside of the old GDR. The town has a number of
communist "relics" including large paintings andmosaics on the sides of many of the barrack-like apartment buildings that showcase the gloriousness ofcommunism . The highway just north of town is paralleled by a low hill just high enough to keep curious passers-by from being able to see the town. An old border checkpoint "(Horst)" is located a few kilometers west of town on the way toLauenburg . The old part of town is typical of many German towns and villages while the primary residential sector north of town is dominated bycommunist architecture .History
