407-401 Durham East Connector

407-401 Durham East Connector

407-401 Durham East Connector is a proposed freeway in Durham Region between Highway 407/ETR and Highway 401.

The Durham East Connector is one of two highways proposed to connect the 407 and 401, with the 407-401 Durham West Connector to be located to the west near the border between Ajax and Whitby.

The Durham East connector will play an important role in allowing traffic to utilize Highway 407 as a bypass of Toronto, Ontario, as it will connect with Highway 401 outside of the currently-built up portion of the Greater Toronto Area.

The eastward extension of Highway 407 is currently undergoing an environmental assessment (EA) process. A preferred route with interchanges was released in June 2007, [ [http://www.407eastea.com/downloads/TRR0.pdf Highway 407 East Technically Recommended Route] ] with the EA process expected to be completed by the end of 2008.

On March 6, 2007 as part of the FLOW initiative, the Government of Canada and the Province of Ontario confirmed the extension of the 407 to Highway 115 in Clarington, including the connector highways, with an announced completion date of 2013. Interchanges from South to North

The Durham East Connector will only have two interchanges - Durham Highway 2 (Exit 4), and a partial interchange at Taunton Road (Exit 9), both in Clarington. Highway 401 will be Exit 1, while Highway 407 will be Exit 10.
