Mount Carmel High School (Akola)

Mount Carmel High School at Akola is one of the best Secondary and Higher Secondary School in the Vidarbha region of Maharashtra in India. The school is affiliated to the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, Government of Maharashtra, India. It is administered and maintained by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Amravati. It is primarily a Catholic school, but is open to people of all faiths.

History

Mount Carmel School at Akola was established in 1977(16th july) by Rev. Fr. Nobert Braganza and under the guidance of Rev. Dr. Joseph Rosario (co-founder), the former bishop of Amravati. The school's first class consisted of 30 students. Now the principal of this school is Rev.Fr.George Vadapadavil.

Curriculum

The course of studies is designed as a preparation or the Secondary School Certificate Examination. The School year, which begins in June comprises of two Semesters; June to October and November to April. The regional language of the State Marathi (Second Language) is a compulsory subject and is taught from Std. I to Std. X. Art and craft, the base and foundation of Basic techniques in education are given due emphasis. Physical Training, Drill Gymnastic and outdoor games are compulsory for all. There is N.C.C. for boys and girls, Scouts group for boys, and Guides group for girls. Road Safety patrol Troop (R.S.P.) for boys and girls and a Social Service Group to which the students are encouraged to join.[1]

Education

The school educates around 4,000 students. It has a staff of around 110, out of which 70 are teaching staff. The school has a library with more than 10,000 books. School students have access to Science Laboratories and Computer Labs.The computer lab here has 20 to 25 working computers. The school provides its students with opportunities for participation in sports and arts activities. It also promotes NCC, Scouts & Guides and RSP activities among students. Scholarships are available on the basis of students academic record. The teachers of this school are too polite to the students as well as parents. The school has a great history of giving 100% result in S.S.C. Board exam. The quality of education is really very good. The school has a huge science lab, computer lab,drawing hall, auditorium & playground.

Junior College

Mount Carmel Junior College, as a supplement to the Secondary School, was opened in 2005 to providing Higher Secondary education for Stds. XI and XII students.

The school started out with 30 students and now has 4000 students. Students from this institution are perched in every continent.[citation needed] & now its principle is the most Rev. Father George who has handled the institute since almost from 1988. Rev.Father George has recently been awarded the best principle of Maharashtra award.
