Issues
Accreditation
Recently, TMHS has undergone a series of conductive tests to accredit the school system. While the teachers were rated as "adequate", the rest of the building was not. The facility was built in 1958, with renovations occurring in 1981. However, due to budget cuts the building, along with the elementary schools in town, has not been well maintained. Wires are commonly exposed along the roof.
Also, the building recently saw an upgrade in its computer system in an effort to make learning in the digital field easier, and of course to boost the image of the building for accreditation. However, it is apparent that these systems are still severely lacking. The school's activities are covered through a local channel that is broadcast on regular cable. However, these events are captured through technology that was considered at the front of technological innovation in the late 70s.
As a result of these issues, Tewksbury Memorial High School has been placed on warning status.
Possible Replacement
Due to the dire circumstances of the building the School Committee recently put forth a plan to replace or renovate the high school. The project is not without controversy in the aftermath of the excesses that plauged the $200 million
Newton North High School , or the utter disaster that was the town's Senior Center expansion.References
