Copenhagen Ducks

Copenhagen Ducks

The Copenhagen Ducks is a professional paintball team based in København, Denmark. They compete in the European Millennium Series as well as the Northern European Series. The Ducks were also one of eight teams to compete in the now-defunct European X-Ball League.

History

The Copenhagen Ducks actually began as the Ugly Ducklings, which was formed in 1990. The team became a serious competitive team in 1994, and the Ugly Ducklings began to travel around Northern Europe. Between the years of 1994 and 1997, competing as amateurs, the Ducklings traveled around Europe, competing in tournaments.

The Ugly Ducklings began to play abroad in 1994; the team was the first Scandinavian team ever to reach a podium finish at the Mayhem Master, the largest paintball event on the European calendar at the time. 1995 saw the team win seven tournaments including Mayhem Scandinavia in Sweden and MIG International Games in Germany.

In 1997 the team played and won four tournaments in England, including the World Hyperball Championships and all three NPPS tournaments, which were at that time the biggest events in Europe. After that, the team gave up its amateur status and became a professional team.

When the EXL (European X-Ball League) formed, it invited the Ducks to join. Because X-Ball is a different format from the more traditional 7-Man format, the team split up to pursue both venues. The Ugly Ducklings continued play 7-Man, while the Ducks absorbed several teams, including the noted Berserks. Since the disbandment of the EXL, the Berserks have reemerged as their own team.
