"The Land Before Time" is an American animated television series, based on characters from "The Land Before Time" American film series created by Judy Freudberg and Tony Geiss. It is currently in production at Universal Animation Studios and Amblin Entertainment (Amblin produced the first film), and premiered on YTV in Canada on January 5, 2007. The show officially premiered on Cartoon Network in the United States on March 5, 2007 (although the first episode debuted on the 4th) after the DVD release of "". It aired on Boomerang in the United Kingdom on April 16, 2007. The first season has begun airing on Cartoon Network India, with its premiere on April 07, 2008. The show has neither aired on Cartoon Network in the United States nor on YTV in Canada for months since March 2008.

It is made as traditionally-animated with computer-animated backgrounds, which the past sequels from ' onwards have used. The main antagonists in the series are Red Claw, a "Tyrannosaurus", and Screech and Thud, two "Velociraptors". The TV series takes place after the events of '.

Production

Chomper has been slightly modified in the TV series. He is now more purple (compared to his bluish color in the films ' and ') and his teeth are positioned differently.

This is Universal's first animated television series produced by Amblin Entertainment since 1996's "The Spooktacular New Adventures of Casper". It is also Amblin's first animated television series since 1998's "Pinky, Elmyra & the Brain" (a spin-off from "Pinky and the Brain"). It is also the first time produced by Amblin Entertainment since the original film "The Land Before Time". Both Universal and Amblin produced previous animated television series, such as "" (based on the "Back to the Future" live-action films), "Fievel's American Tails" (based on "An American Tail" films), "Family Dog" (executive produced by Steven Spielberg and Tim Burton, who produced animated films like "The Nightmare Before Christmas" and "Corpse Bride"), and "The Spooktacular New Adventures of Casper" (based on the live-action/animated film "Casper"). The TV series is the first animated television series produced by Amblin Entertainment to be filmed in the high-definition format. The TV series also marks the first and only time the Amblin Entertainment logo has ever appeared in "The Land Before Time" series since the original 1988 film, as the studio has no rights for the sequels.

It is unknown if "The Land Before Time" will be renewed for a second season yet.

Music

*The songs are written by Michele Brourman (music) and Ford Riley (lyrics).
*All of the songs sung in the TV series (with the exception of "Adventuring", "Friends for Dinner", "Big Water", and "The Legend of the Lone Dinosaur") are unnamed, and the names above are approximations.
*All of the songs are generally very short, and only span roughly 1 minute.
*Every episode of the TV series has exactly two songs in it.
*Many of the song's melodies are reused in other episodes with different singers/lyrics (a la Nerima Daikon Brothers). The songs "Talking Big" (with a different absolute pitch), "Fix Your Tooth", "Do Anything", "My Reality", "Sniff Him Out", and "Find Those Stones" are all melodically the same with different lyrics, as are "Remembering", "Everything Will Be Okay", "What To Do", "Be Quiet Now", and "Follow Me" (with a different absolute pitch). Also, "I Feel Mad", "We Need a Plan", "Must Believe", "Made a Mistake", "Hide My Stones", "Me Need New Home" (with a different absolute pitch), "We Must Be Brave", and "Is It True She Lied" are all melodically the same with different lyrics. "My Way" is melodically the same as "Oops-Eeps". "It's Good to Be Home" is melodically the same as "Feel So Happy". "Good Times, Good Friends" shares its melody with "Please Be Careful". The songs "Hidden Runner", "Big Longneck Test", and "Don't Be Scared" are melodically the same as "Big Water" from the film '. Similarly, "Above the Mysterious Above" and "The Amazing Threehorn Girl" (with a different absolute pitch) are melodically the same as "Beyond the Mysterious Beyond" from the film '. "The Legend of the Lone Dinosaur" from the film "" shares its original melody with "Up in the Sky".
*The only film songs played in the TV series that never share their melodies are "Adventuring" from ' and "Friends for Dinner" from '. "Adventuring" is also the only repeating song played in the TV series that never shares its melody.
*The song "Adventuring" is taken from the film '. "Friends for Dinner" and "Big Water" are also taken from the film '. "The Legend of the Lone Dinosaur" is also taken from the film "".
*In the episode "Days of Rising Waters", the song "Feel So Happy" is played with a different absolute pitch than other versions of the song.
*In the episode "The Missing Fast-Water Adventure", the song "Remembering" is played with a different absolute pitch than other versions of the song.

Trivia

*When "Search for the Sky Color Stones" first aired on Cartoon Network, the end credits for "" were shown as an error. However, when "Search for the Sky Color Stones" re-aired on Cartoon Network on February 8, 2008, the end credits for the TV series were correctly shown.
*Cera, Ruby, Spike and Ducky are occasionally computer-generated in "Search of the Sky Color Stones". Also, Chomper was seen eating honey.
*When "The Amazing Threehorn Girl" shares the melody with "Beyond the Mysterious Beyond" from the film ' in NTSC format, its pitch sounds the same as the PAL version of "Beyond the Mysterious Beyond" from the film '.
*Former "" actor Max Burkholder, the current voice of Chomper, also voices Roo on "My Friends Tigger & Pooh".
*Anthony Skillman provided Littlefoot's singing voice because Cody Arens is not good at singing.
*Some people once thought that "Back to the Future" actor Thomas F. Wilson, currently heard on "SpongeBob SquarePants", voiced Kosh in "The Star Day Celebration", but then realized that Pete Sepenuk actually voiced him in "The Star Day Celebration" (due to the fact that "Kosh" is Mr. Clubtail's first name). However, Jeff Bennett, who voiced Kosh in "", reprised his voice in "The Amazing Threehorn Girl".
*Cam Clarke, the voice of Bron, was the singing voice of Simba in "".
*Elizabeth Daily (a.k.a. E.G. Daily), the voices of Rhett and Shorty, was also the voices of Tommy Pickles on "Rugrats" and "All Grown Up!", Buttercup on "The PowerPuff Girls", Babe the Gallant Pig in "", also released by Universal, Baby Mumble in "Happy Feet", Froggy in "The Little Rascals", also produced by Universal and Amblin, and Lorenzo Odone in some shots of "Lorenzo's Oil", also released by Universal.
*In "The Amazing Threehorn Girl", Kosh is credited as a nameless "Ankylosaurus".
*Kevin Michael Richardson, who voiced Scuttle, is famous for voicing Gantu in the "Lilo & Stitch" series.
*Ikue Ōtani, the Japanese voice of Chomper, is also the voice of Pikachu on "Pokémon".
*Etsuko Kozakura, the Japanese voice of Littlefoot, is also the Japanese voice of Piplup on "".
*Etsuko Kozakura and Yukiji, who voice Mirumo and Yashichi from Mirmo! also do the Japanese voices of Littlefoot and Petrie.
*Urara Takano, the Japanese voice of Petrie's Mother, is also the voice of Maria Tachibana on "Sakura Wars".
*In the episode "The Canyon of Shiny Stones", Littlefoot and the gang are occasionally computer-generated in wide shots.
*"The Star Day Celebration" and "The Canyon of Shiny Stones" contain shots that are never on the Wal-Mart Exclusive DVD.
*In Canada, the end credits for most episodes of the TV series contain the NBC Universal Television Studio logo after the Amblin Entertainment and Universal Animation Studios logos, but in the United States, they only contain the Amblin Entertainment and Universal Animation Studios logos.
*When "Search for the Sky Color Stones" first aired on Cartoon Network, the end credits for "" were shown as an error. However, when "Search for the Sky Color Stones" re-aired on Cartoon Network on February 8, 2008, the end credits for the TV series were correctly shown.
