Smithtown, New South Wales

Smithtown (coord|31|00|S|152|56|E [ [http://www.ga.gov.au/bin/gazd01?rec=84461 Smithtown page] at Geoscience Australia] ) is a small town on the banks of the Macleay River in New South Wales, Australia. The town of Gladstone lies across on the southern side of the river.

The town was named after Robert Smith, a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly, when the post office was established in 1877. ["Valley of the Macleay", Marie H. Neil, 1972, ISBN 0-85587-037-0, page 59]
