John Buttigieg (born October 5, 1963) is a former Maltese footballer, who played defender. He is currently the coach of Birkirkara F.C..

Club career

During his playing career, Buttigieg played for Sliema Wanderers, Brentford F.C., Swindon Town F.C. (loan), Floriana Football Club and Valletta F.C..

He subsequently became a coach, joining Birkirkara F.C..

International career

Buttigieg won 95 caps for Malta, debuting on May 23, 1984, in a World Cup qualifier against Sweden (0-4 away loss). He would also feature in the valiant 2-1 friendly loss against England in June 2000, his last international match.
