Chapirevula[1] is one of the old villages in Nandyal Mandal of Kurnool district, Andhra Pradesh, India. Chapirevula is about 3 km from Bommala Satram Nandyal, which is a center for automobiles in rayalaseema region. It is very nearer to nandyal so in future it may be the part of nandyal. It is a minor panchayat but this village contains almost 1000 houses.

The origin of this village can be traced back to 15th century from the inscriptions on the walls of the very old Lord Siva Temple. The Kundu River is the main source of irrigation water for this area which made many people dependent on agriculture. After the construction of K C Kenal this area became very fertile land. There are few well educated but many of the educated left the village to pursue their careers in cities like Nandyal and Hyderabad and foreign countries like the United States of America.

Geography

Chapirevula is located at 15°29′N 78°29′E / 15.48°N 78.48°E / 15.48; 78.48and has an average elevation of 203 metres (666 ft). Chapirevula lies in the western part of Andhra Pradesh. This region is bounded by thick Nallamala forests. A canal from the Telugu Ganga project and SRBC canal flow near Chapirevula making the land fertile.

Demographics

Chapirevula has a population of more than 3,000.Males constitute ~48% of the population and females ~52%. Chapirevula has an average literacy rate of 45%: male literacy is ~50%. In Chapirevula, 50% of the population is bove 40 years of age as many of the educated left the village to pursue their careers in cities like Nandyal and Hyderabad and foreign countries like the United States of America.

Chapirevula, has centuries of history. Chapirevula was under the rule of Sri Krishna Devaraya as a part of Vijayanagar Empire for centuries. The name Chapirevula is derived from the Telugu word Chakirevu (As it is near to Kundu river). Almost 99% people live depend on agriculture. Till 1985 the main transportation of this village was bull-cart and later on Hoarse cart and Bicycle. The first Electricity line has been provided to this village is on 1967 by APTRANSCO (Transmission Corporation of Andhra Pradesh). Before the electricity has come to this village, people used to do lot of labor work to grind there rice Using Stone device called "Rolu" (Telugu). Now there are around three Electric Machines (Gin in local language) to do this work. In 1985 the first bus service has been started by Sri Parameswara bus service. The village was famous for its narrow and crisscross road. It takes lot of effort and concentration for the driver to cross this village. The APSRTC buses go through villages are Maddur, Mitnala, Guntanala, Tangutooru and Banaganapalle.

By 2002 the Auto rickshaw transportation has taken over the APSRTC and Parameswara bus services. Now the main transportation is Auto rickshaw and 20% people have their own two wheelers. Recently[when?] it has got a very good cement road and there is a proposal of Ring Road.

Festivals

Gangamma gudi - Chapirevula

The festival of Sankranthi, Dasara, Ugadi, Vinayaka Chavithi, Moharram Sri Rama Navami are celebrated here. Here the Sri Rama Navami is the main festival on which day there will be lot of competitions like cycle race, sprint, bandi lagudu (pulling the Bull-Cart), reversing the tractor, Eddula Banda Lagudu, slow cycling, Banda Eththudu. These competitions are good refreshment for the village people. Moharram (Peerla Pandaga) is also celebrated with lot of enjoyment like Poteshkalu and one of the major attractions of the Poteshkalu is Surpanakha. Here Ugadi is celebrated with sacrificing the chickens to the god Maaramma and Sankranthi is celebrated by carrying the god Rama Seetha Lakshmana all over the village. One of the noting point in this festival Sankranthi is younger people take the Jammi leaves and gives to the Old people for there blessings. Dasara is celebrated with Gorra pandem.

Education

Chapirevula is the educational hub for high school studies for nearby villages like Subbareddypalem, Thogarcheedu, Pusulooru, Mitnala, Panduranagapuram and Gunthanala.

  • ZPH high school Chapirevula - This is established in the year 1980. Before this school was started, village people used to walk to a nearby town for their high school education. This is famous for the Indian Sport Kho kho at National Level. It Produced Several National level Players in Kho kho as well as in Kabaddi. One acre of land was donated by philanthropist Mereddy Vengal Reddy from Diguvapadu village in kurnool district for the High school in Chapirevula.
  • Elementary school Chapirevula - This is very old school and it was established in the year 1960.

  • Ramalayam - 1940 AD - At the heart of the village. Also Called as "Anjaneyaswami Devalayam".
  • Shivalayam - 1500 AD - It is at the West side of the Village. This is the very old temple constructed around 15th Century.

  • Bangaramma Gudi - Just opposite to Ramalayam. This where the all the Panchayati happen.
  • Marremma Gudi - Very old temple.

Weather

Average temperature is around 28 °C and the village has plenty of water resources even in the hot summers as it is near to the river Kundu. The average rainfall is about 3 to 4 cm in the rainy season. Occasionally 20% of the village go drown in flood water of Kundu River. The years of floods to Kundu are 1994, 2000, 2004 and 2007. Summers are hot and winters are colder than expected forecasts.

As the village is near to town, there was no much encouragement for Cinema theatre. But in Old days i.e. in between 1980-&-1990, there used to a Tent cinema in Ayyamma gari kallam. And occasionally there will be Hari katha, Burra kath, Drama's and Dance programs are held on the festivals of Sri rama navami at Ramalayam & Bangaramma.

Drinking Water Tanks

Olden days i.e. before the bore wells are not present i.e. before 1980; the main source of drinking water and usage water is from Kundu and from few of the Wells. Since the bore wells are found bore wells did serve the purpose i.e. from 1985 to 1998. It is on 1998 the water tank came to start working and it served major part of the village. And it is on 2003 Farroq Nagar got one more Water tank for Farroq Nagar People.in the year 2006 one more water tank had been laid on the north side of chapirevula
