Ugley is a small hamlet located just off the B1383 road (the former A11) in the non-metropolitan district of Uttlesford in Essex, England. It is about a mile north of Stansted Mountfitchet, and located between Saffron Walden and Bishop's Stortford, two of the wealthiest towns in East Anglia.

Ugley was first recorded in 1041 as "Uggele". It appears in the "Domesday Book" as "Ugghelea". The name probably means "woodland clearing of a man named Ugga."

Within Ugley there are several buildings of the 16th and 17th centuries. The church has a 13th-century nave and a Tudor brick tower.

One of Ugley's organisations, of long repute, is the Ugley Women's Institute. Its members became so annoyed with all the witticisms that they recently changed its name to "The Women's Institute of Ugley". It is [http://www.charity-commission.gov.uk/registeredcharities/showcharity.asp?chyno=1054829 still registered as "UGLEY WOMENS INSTITUTE" with the Charity Commision] .
