USS New Haven

USS New Haven

Several United States Navy ships have been proposed to be named USS "New Haven" in honor of New Haven, Connecticut, however only one was actually built:

* was a gondola on Lake Champlain that participated in the Battle of Valcour Island during the American Revolutionary War.

* USS "New Haven" (CL-76) was initially laid down as a "Cleveland"-class light cruiser, but after the attack on Pearl Harbor, she was reordered as an "Independence"-class light aircraft carrier and renamed USS|Belleau Wood|CVL-24.

* USS "New Haven" (CL-109) was planned as a Sclass|Fargo|cruiser|2 light cruiser, but was canceled at the end of World War II.

* USS "New Haven" (CLK-2) was laid down as a hunter-killer cruiser (along with USS "Norfolk" (CLK-1), however construction was deferred on 2 March 1949 and then completely canceled on 9 February 1951 when the CLK program was canceled.
