Ramrao Adik Institute of Technology (RAIT) is a private engineering college in Nerul, Navi Mumbai, India established in 1983. It is part of the DY Patil Educational Academy. The college was started in year 1983 in CBD Belapur in Navi Mumbai (New Bombay) and then later moved to Nerul.

RAIT is an un-aided, non-autonomous, non-minority A graded college affiliated to the University of Mumbai [http://www.dte.org.in/degree/inst.asp?i=EN225] . The institute is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), a statutory body of the Government of India and also by Government of Maharashtra.

Campus

The College is situated in DY Patil Vidyapeeth in Nerul with a large campus. The 40 acre campus of the Deemed University houses in its ambit several well-established and renowned colleges such as the Padmashree Dr. D. Y. Patil Medical College, Padmashree Dr. D. Y. Patil Dental College and Hospital , Institute of Hotel Management and Catering Technology, Law College, College of Architecture, College of Occupational Therapy, College of Physiotherapy ' Ayurveda College and Hospital besides Ramrao Adik Institute of Technology .

The college is housed in a spacious building occupying nearly convert|120000|sqft|m2 area. Most of the canteens and faculties are connected internally and there is considerable interaction among people from different faculties. The campus also houses a 1000 seated air-conditioned auditorium and a 500 seating capacity air-conditioned mini auditorium .Even though the college is situated in the Dr. D. Y. Patil Deemed University campus it is affiliated to University of Mumbai.Its one of the best colleges in mumbai.

Public transport

The main campus is located in Nerul lies along Sion Panvel Highway . The Institute is easily reachable by local train , State Transport Buses ,BEST and NMMT(especially Bus No.44 From Dombivli and Bus No.24 From New Panvel). Most students are able to reach the campus within 30 minutes to one hour from any point in Mumbai. The campus also has a 200 bed hostel for women also a boys hostel which provides spacious accommodation and wholesome diet on nominal rates. There are two well-designed cafeterias on the campus, which have varied cuisine to offer. The cafeterias are run by our catering school and the pricing is at actuals.

Departments of Engineering

The college offers 4 years full-time engineering courses under the following three departments.

Computer engineering

Computer Engineering Department is one of the first department to be started in 1983. Courses like Digital Signal Processing, Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Networks, Image Processing, Computer Vision, Artificial Intelligence, and Communication are taught here. The department has five labs with a total capacity of 300 computer. Events and technical festivals are organised under CSI.

The department offer two degree courses Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Engineering degree course and Bachelor of Engineering in Information Technology degree courseThe intake for Computer Engineering in 120 and for Information Technology is 60 students per academic year.

Electronics engineering

The Electronics Engineering Department was also started in 1983. Courses like Electronics Circuit and Design, Microprocessors, Electronic Instrumentation, Analog Integrated Circuits, Digital Integrated Circuits, Signals and Systems , Wireless Communications, Wave Theory and Propagation, Filter Theory, Data Communication form the core subjects of the Department. After the Bachelor of Engineering in Electronics Engineering degree course was started in 1983, the Bachelor of Engineering in Electronics and Telecommunication degree course was added to the department in 2002.The intake for Electronics Engineering in 120 and for Electronics and Telecommunication is 90 students per academic year.

Instrumentation engineering

Ramrao Adik Institute of Technology is one of the few colleges under Mumbai University which have this department. The department was started in 1998. The curriculum includes courses like Process Instrumentation, Process Equipment Design, Analog and Digital Control Systems. laboratories like Process Instrumentation, Analytical Instrumentation and Electronics Instrumentation are being set up in the department.

The department offers Bachelor of Engineering in Instrumentation Engineering degree course with an intake capacity of 60 students per academic year.

Ramrao Adik Institute of Technology is the western Regional Center for distance learning programs in the fields of Electronics and Control, Software Systems and Systems & Information of BITS Pilani. Software Packages have been developed in-house computerization Admission merit list and follow-up operation Roll lists and attendance registers Examination matters and results processing Final Year Projects - allocation and monitoring Library Operation.

The Institute offers many opportunities for students to enjoy their leisure time. Sport and recreational activities are central to student life. The Institute has facilities for indoor and outdoor sports. At Navi Mumbai, the D. Y. Patil Sports Academy Recreation and Sports Center, which is managed by the Guild of Students, boasts a multipurpose sports facility for table tennis, basketball, chess and badminton. The D. Y. Patil Sports Academy (DYPSA) was started in Navi Mumbai with the purpose of developing and promoting cricket in Navi Mumbai. The Academy has several members who comprise of players who have played in the Ranji Trophy. A new 60,000 seating capacity state-of-art DY Patil Stadium is under construction. The stadium will host initially host Ranji Trophy matches on completion somewhere in beginning of 2007.

Festivals

RAITs inter-college cultural festival - Horizon is among the top 5 college festivals in Mumbai. It draws participants from all over the country and can be described as three memorable days of fun and excitement

The Day events include :Literary Events-Quizzes (Sports, Math & Logic, Film & Music), A Treasure Hunt.
Computer Events - Software Programming, Debugging, Quizzes, Web Designing.
Fine Arts Competitions - Fabric Painting, Mehendi Competitions, Face Painting.
Musical Competitions - Solo and Duet Singing, Antakshari Competitions, Amateur Rock Competitions.
Informals - Mock Fashion Shows, Personality Contests, etc.

The Night events include :Pro Nite - Performance by reputed professional artistes like Kay Kay , Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, Euphoria ,Strings , Jal, Indian Ocean etc.
Fashion Show - Participation from over 10 colleges every year.
Rock Show - Performances by professional rock bands from all over the country like Parikrama, Moksha, Killer Tomatoes , Retrospecetc.

Kalaraag is a theatre group purely dedicated to English, Marathi and Hindi theatre. The group organizes inter-collegiate theatre festivals by its own name and provides opportunities to students to perform in dramatics competitions at all levels.

The college's IEEE Student Branch (IEEE-RAIT) organizes the annual technical event Whizion in the month of August/September. Events include 3 levels of Robotics competitions, Paper presentations, Hardware / Software contests, Technical quizzes, and several other on-the-spot events. IEEE-RAIT also organizes 360 Degrees in conjunction with 5 other engineering colleges from Mumbai in the month of February.

Computer Society of India (CSI-RAIT), another major community of this college started its first Festival "TECHKNOW" on an inter-college level in the year 2003, where they had organised speeches by Ankit Fadia, reputed as the world's youngest Hacker and other people from the industry. Apart from various technical speeches/practicals, this festival also organises technical paper representations along with game events. CSI-RAIT also has another INTER-COLLEGE festival known as "TECHMATE... checkmated by Technology" started in 2004 which works on the same basis as "TECHKNOW" but focuses on colleges in and around Navi Mumbai. Ramrao Adik Institute of Technology ISA Student's Section (ISA-RAIT) also organizes technical event "Niyantran" in the month of February. Niyantran Includes Robotics competitions, Paper presentations, Hardware contests, Technical quizzes. In 2007, ISA-RAIT Niyantran event was huge success, as it collaborated with other engineering colleges from Navi Mumbai and hosted event in RAIT. ISA-RAIT also hosts annually some workshop for Instrumentation Department and quarterly Industrial Visit [IV] for their department.
