Wisconsin Forensics Coaches Association

The Wisconsin Forensics Coaches Association (WFCA) is one of two forensics leagues in the state. Though founded after the Wisconsin High School Forensics Association, the WFCA has grown to be the larger and more popular league in the state. Although national forensic circuit competition includes both debate and individual events, competition in Wisconsin is split. Debate events in Wisconsin are sponsored by the Wisconsin Debate Coaches Association.

The WFCA sponsors categories and the rules that govern each event. At the same time, the organization coordinates and provides training, program support, and coach workshops. The efforts of the WFCA and speech students alike culminate in the WFCA State Tournament each April. In the past, the State Tournament was held at University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, but the tournament is now held at Ripon College.

Categories

The WFCA currently sponsors 21 events, of which Impromptu is almost always offered as consolation event, if at all. The events are divided up into Speech and Interpretation events. Speech events are those in which the student composes an original speech, with research, opinions, arguments, etc. Interpretations are those presentations that are adapted from other works. The WFCA requires that some works must be published in some events, while original material is permissible in events such as Poetry and Prose.
