Jan Markell is host of "Understanding The Times", a national talk radio show heard on various Christian stations across the USA, including KPSZ and KKMS. Jan is also the founder and director of Olive Tree Ministries in Maple Grove, Minnesota.

Jan became a Christian as a young girl under the ministry of Jewish evangelist Dr. Hyman Appelman. She has been in Messianic, prophecy, or Israel-related ministry since 1975, when she entered ministry with "Jews For Jesus". She has also served on the staff of the "International Christian Embassy, Jerusalem."

Jan served on the original staff of the first Messianic Jewish Congregation of the Twin Cities in 1980. At that time there were only six in the world. She is recognized as a pioneer in the Messianic movement.

She has authored eight books and written over 300 articles for publication that have appeared in many periodicals around the world. Her books have sold a total of a half-million copies.

Jan’s newsletter was first published in 1993. Her radio show,"Understanding the Times," formerly "Prophetic Views Behind the News," is heard in the Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota, area and surrounding 60 mile radius. In November 2003, the radio ministry expanded to 11 additional venues across the United States and can also be heard via radio archives at her Web site online and through podcasting.
