Kuebiko

Kuebiko

Nihongo|Kuebiko|久延毘古| is a shinto kami of knowledge, studies and agriculture.

In Japanese mythology, he appears in a tale of Ōkuninushi. When Ōkuninushi stood at Cape Miho in Izumo, a small kami arrived across the ocean. But nobody knew his name. Therefore, a toad said "Kuebiko should know his name, because he knows everything of the world." Kuebiko was called and answered, "His name is Sukunabikona, a child of Kami-musubi."

In fact, he is a "kakashi" (scarecrow). Because he stands all day outdoors, he knows everything.

He is worshiped at Kuebiko Shrine, a subordinate shrine ("massha") of Ōmiwa Shine in Sakurai, Nara.
