Wielbark, Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship

Wielbark (IPA2|ˈvʲɛlbark; Audio-de|Willenberg|Willenberg.ogg) is a village in Poland, in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, in Szczytno County, in Wielbark Commune. It is located in southern Masuria, since 1945 Poland, about 15 km south of Szczytno and 5 km north of the former southern border of East Prussia to Poland.

First mentioned in 1361 as "Wildhaus" ("wild game house") of the Teutonic Order, (Wildenberg) Willenberg consisted only of few buildings. It was called a small town in 1647, and received city rights in 1723. The Prussian administration reform of 1818 made Willenberg part of Landkreis Ortelsburg. Willenberg had around 2,600 inhabitants before the German population had to leave at the end of World War II at the take-over by Communists.
