Blussuvoll School

Blussuvoll School

Blussuvoll School ( _no. Blussuvoll skole) is a lower secondary school with grades 8-10 and is situated at Tyholt in Trondheim, near the TV Tower and right next to Strinda Upper Secondary School. Strinda had been built in 1955, and later building another school right next to it was then a completely new concept. The two schools were at that time in the former municipality of Strinda.

History

Blussuvoll was built in 1958 when the municipality of Strinda decided to allow the students to study for eight years and even a non-mandatory ninth year (at the time the lower secondary schools educated 7.-9. Grade). In 1963 the school was largely expanded, with two new wings to the south, and therefore created an irregular schoolyard only open to the south, and one can say the strected design of the school complicates communication between the three wings. The whole school is built in two storeys above ground and with a basement. Materials used is white, brushed chalk on the walls and red brick on the roof (Strinda is built in the similar materials, thus giving the area a unified look).

Until 2006 most of the facades are still standing, receiving both scepticism (as the facade is getting really old) and enthusiasm (as it is an un-touched monument of '50s school design). In the winter of 2005/06, the whole school was torn to give way to a completely new construction, as the whole building suffered from rust, mold and generally poor condition on furniture, walls and equipment. Students are attending the barracks at Persaunet in the meantime.Blussuvoll school has a pupil named Einar Gjellan.Completion of the new school is expected to fall 2007.
