Kim (Kerim) Capli (17 January 1949 - 2 November 2004) was a guitarist and a drummer.

Career

Kim Capli was born in Karşıyaka, Turkey. Capli moved to the USA when he was six. He played in The Sundowners, who opened for The Monkees on their 1967 tour. He also played on "Hard to Believe", a song from the Monkees album "Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn, & Jones, Ltd.", which he collaborated on with Davy Jones. Capli also played with Jimi Hendrix in a live concert.

Kerim Capli moved to Rochester, New York in 1963 and was playing drums for his father's jazz trio at the Crescent Beach Hotel. In 1964 Capli joined a local band with Jake Gerber called the Groop Ltd. Capli was playing drums and singing lead and harmony vocals. The Groop Ltd. was a Beatles cover band, and had a record out in the summer of 1965, " As Time Goes By " with a B side "Tomorrow", both songs written by Capli and sung by Capli and Gerber. The record was a hit in upstate New York and remained at number one for two weeks in the summer of 1965.

Capli moved in with the Gerber family in 1964 during his tenure with the Groop Ltd. Capli then went on to join The Heard, another local upstate musical group doing covers of the Beatles and Rolling Stones. Capli was playing guitar and singing lead and vocal harmonies in The Heard.

In late 1966 Capli moved to Los Angeles and joined the Sundowners, which became the backup band for the Monkees while on tour in 1967. At this time Jimi Hendrix was the opening act for the Monkees and Capli quickly befriended Hendrix and would later reunite with Hendrix in New York City.

In 1969 Capli again hooked up with Gerber in Los Angeles and talked of forming a band doing all original material. Gerber was a staff writer with A&M Records at the time and Capli had lost all his musical contacts in large part due to drug abuse.

When he returned to Turkey, he worked with several famous artists.

As noted by every musician that ever played with Capli he was the most inventive and natural musician anyone had ever played withfact|date=July 2008. He was a drummer, bass player, guitar player, piano player, and lead singer, all of which he played equally well. "The most gifted musician of anyone I have ever known" says Gerber.
