Ali M. Mir

Ali M. Mir is a member of the Executive Council of the Population Association of Pakistan. He has previously served as the Vice President of the Population Association of Pakistan.[citation needed] and the Secretary General of the Association.[1] He serves as Director Programs at the Population Council’s Pakistan Office. He is a medical graduate from the Rawalpindi Medical College, and obtained Masters of Public Health from the University of Leeds UK. He was awarded the prestigious Britannia/Chevening scholarship to pursue studies in the UK. He has attended specialized postgraduate trainings at Harvard University and the Johns Hopkins University in the US.

At the Council he is currently overseeing as chief of Party the implementation of a large scale USAID funded project entitled FALAH (Family Advancement for Life and Health) . The project aims to improve health outcomes for families in Pakistan.

He has taught community medicine at the Rawalpindi Medical College and has worked for the government of Pakistan. He has authored a book entitled “A synopsis of Epidemiology and Basic Statistics and edited “An Introduction to Medical Demography and Population Studies”. He has also authored several research articles and has made presentations in Pakistan as well as in the US, China, Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia, India and the Sudan.

He has run courses and taught at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences, Health Services Academy Islamabad, Institutes of Public Health Lahore and Quetta, University of Arid Agriculture Rawalpindi, Civil Services Academy Lahore, National Institute of Population Studies Islamabad and the University of Khartoum, Sudan

He is a member of the International Union for Scientific Study of Population
