Pusad is a city and a municipal council in Yavatmal district of Vidarbha region in the Indian state of Maharashtra.

Pusad gets its name from River Pus, which flows close to the town. Pusad falls under Yavatmal district. From Nagpur, Pusad is about 6 hours by bus or about 5 hours by car.

It is also the home town of two former chief minister of Maharastra Vasantrao Naik & Sudhakar Rao Naik.

Geography

Demographics

As of 2001 India census [GR|India] , Pusad had a population of 67,152. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Pusad has an average literacy rate of 78%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 80%, and female literacy is 72%. In Pusad, 14% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Pusad is well known for its cotton crops moreover one can find almost all kind of educational courses in this little town.

There are many tourist place like Mahur situated near to pusad. There are three 3 dams near to Pusad like pus dam, isapur dam etc.

Climate is moderate to hot with temperature going up to 49 degree Celsius in Summers and around 23 in winters.

Education

Pusad is home to the Baba Saheb Naik College of Engineering and many of other colleges, including the Bachelor of Education College, Dr. N.P. Hirani Institute of Polytechnique, and Pharmacy College. The College of Engineering is on the outer fringe of the city, about 3 kilometres from the city centre. The Pusad College of Dairy Technology was established by the government of Maharashtra in 1992. There are only 6 colleges of dairy technology in India, so it is matter of pride to citizens of Pusad to have one in their town.

Pusad have municial council with A grade.Recent President of this council is Jai Bhagwat established in december 2006.

*Karla temple, 3.7km away from the Engineering college on Parbhani road.There are other temple like Dhankeswara temple of lord Shiva which is 5 Km from center part of city.Also there is SAI mandir 4 Km from main city on Nanded Road.You can find various and ancient temple in this city which build in B.C.'s.The other most beautiful place to visit here is "khandala Ghat".You can see the amazing scene of PUS dam(named as Wasant Sagar) from One of the Part of this region.The other things is to see is the Wild life in the area. Notable thing is to have the big Forest area near by city.
