Malt beer

Malt beer is a beverage made from barley malt syrup, sugar, water, yeast and hops. It is very popular in Israel where it is called "בירה שחורה" ("black beer"). Malt beer has a negligible alcohol content. It is sometimes called Malta or Wheat Soda. It is considered nutritious by some people and sometimes given to nursing mothers.[citation needed]

The German version is called Malzbier; popular brands include Vitamalz. Brands for sale in Israel include Nesher and Goldstar. Variations are also popular in Latin and Caribbean countries. West African brands include Guinness Malt, Amstel Malt, Maltex, etc., and are sold as energy drinks. Danish brands include Tuborg.
