Sadiq Khan (Shah of Persia)

Sadiq Khan (Shah of Persia)

Sadiq Khan Zand (c. - 1782), was the fifth Shah of Zand dynasty, who ruled Persia from August 22, 1779 until March 14, 1781.

Sadiq Khan was Karim Khan's brother, but unlike him, Sadiq was well-known for his corruption. The course of his reigning was the pinnacle of his political mischief. When On June 19, 1779 Abol Fath Khan became the sole ruler of Persia, Zaki Khan became his aid, through which Abol Fath managed to survive. After Zaki Khan's murder by the people of Isfahan however, he became powerless, and many who were waiting for the opportune moment began their rebellion.

Ali Murad Khan, the commander of royal army, who was sent to undermine a Qajar attack in the north, betrayed Abol Fath, and left the capital defenseless. So when Sadiq invaded Shiraz he faced little resistance. On August 22, 1779, he raided Shiraz and slew Abol Fath Khan after tearing his eyes from their sockets, and declared himself the ruler of Persia.

In the meantime Ali Murad Khan had captured Isfahan, and with the military power that he possessed his capturing of the capital was not a surprise. In 1781, Ali Murad Khan raided Shiraz and became the new king of Persia. He then slew Sadiq Khan, and so the violent succession of kings of Zand continued.
