Eszter Hargittai

Eszter Hargittai (born 1973 [cite LAF|id=no2003-73054] ) is a sociologist at Northwestern University. She holds a B.A. in sociology from Smith College and a Ph.D. in Sociology from Princeton University where she was a post-doctoral fellow at the Center for Arts and Cultural Policy Studies, and Woodrow Wilson School. She is a member of the group blog Crooked Timber.

She is currently Associate Professor of Communication Studies and Sociology, and Faculty Fellow of the Institute for Policy Research at Northwestern University where she heads the Web-Use Project. Her research focuses on the social and policy implications of information technologies with a particular interest in how IT may contribute to or alleviate social inequalities.

She was interviewed about the Internet and its social effects on CNNfn's "The Flip Side" on April 29 2004.
