Brunswick and Florida Railroad

Brunswick and Florida Railroad

The Brunswick and Florida Railroad (B&F) was chartered in 1835 and was originally planned to run from several areas in Southern Georgia and Northern Florida to Brunswick, Georgia. By 1859, the railroad stretched from Brunswick to Glenmore, Georgia, where it connected with the Atlantic and Gulf Railroad. In 1863, the government of the Confederate States of America took much of the B&F's track and used it elsewhere for more vital railroad links. After the war in 1869, the State of Georgia provided about $6 million in bonds to rebuild. The railroad was then reorganized as the Brunswick and Albany Railroad.
