Team Record

Franchise History

The Cavalry was created as an expansion team of the International Basketball League in September of 2005. Initially slated to be named the Aurora Outlaws, the franchise became the Aurora Cavalry and from its inception became an above-average team in the league. The Cavalry tipped off their first game on March 31, 2006, beating crosstown team Colorado Crossover 140-132. Beginning their existence with a 5-game winning streak, Aurora, led by coach and former Harlem Globetrotter Dejon Jernagin (later replaced by A.B. Maxey), quickly gained a reputation for a balanced attack which was hard for their opponents to counter at first, but they went on to lose seven of their final fifteen games - four in a row in blowout fashion. Injuries to some players reportedly was to blame, while others left for better opportunities elsewhere. However, the Cavalry managed to finish 2006 in 4th place out of 12 teams in the Western Conference and 7th overall. The Aurora Cavalry did not play in the post-season (and played a shorter schedule than other teams) due to mismanagement of funds by the head coaching staff, who took advantage of a well-meaning community organization by fleecing it of virtually every ounce of capital reserved for the tickets. The team refused to participate in their own well-being by recognizing the fact that the more tickets they sold, the more theye would earn. Yet, ever game since day one, tickets trickled in and the players wanted their standard rate or would threatened to walk. The coach, rather than be the professional we hired him to be played the owners against the team. The last straw was a financially disastrous personal situation between the the sister-in-law of on of the owners, who happend to be my wife. All funds budgeted to get through the rest of the season had to go towards fighting for my personal battles, which were long in place. If anyone wants the best example of mismanagement is when I gave the team enough to travel to their California trip - where they were waxed unexplicility. Then the coach stopped at the casions, met some women (as a god fearing man) - blew all the travel money and the team had to call me for almost $400 to get home from Vegas to Denver. The Cavalry have since folded.Fact|date=December 2007
