BAE Systems Information Technology

BAE Systems Information Technology (BAE-IT) is a division of BAE Systems Inc.. It was formed by merging BAE Systems Enterprise Systems, Inc. (BAE Systems ESI) and DigitalNet Holdings, Inc. BAE Systems completed its purchase of DigitalNet on October 25 2004 for $600 million.

The company provides network services and "information assurance solutions" and lists its major customers as the national intelligence agencies and the Departments of State, Justice, Treasury, Homeland Security, and Defense.

BAE Systems Information Technology currently employes more than 4,200 highly-qualified engineering, technical, and functional peronnel, which in turn makes BAE-IT one of the largest IT providers to the U.S. Government.

BAE-IT is representative of combined capabilities that can span a whole suite of managerd network services, IT applications, and information assurance solutions for the Intelligence Community, the Department of Defense and its Military Services, and federal agencies and departments, including the Department of Homeland Security, Department of Justice, Department of Treasury, and the Department of the State.

History

Quality Systems, Inc. was incorporated in 1981. Quality Systems was purchased by Vitro Corporation, which was then itself acquired by Tracor in 1993. In 1996 Tracor, a major defence contractor, purchased Cordant Inc. for $65 million to expand its IT business. Cordant was merged with Quality Systems to form Tracor Information Systems Company. Following the purchased of Tracor by GEC's Marconi North America, the business was renamed Enterprise Systems as part of Marconi North America. In 1999 GEC's defence business (including Tracor) was merged with British Aerospace to form BAE Systems plc. BAE's United States businesses became BAE Systems North America (now BAE Systems Inc.)

DigitalNet was established in 2002 with financing from GTCR Golder Rauner. In September 2002 the newly created DigitalNet acquired Getronics Government Solutions (GGS) from Getronics NV. GGS was created in 1999 when the Netherlands-based Getronics NV bought Wang Global and renamed its Wang Government Services unit. DigitalNet had its initial public offering (IPO) on October 10 2003. Following the acquisition of DigitalNet by BAE Systems it was merged into BAE Systems Enterprise Systems.

Governance

BAE-IT is a part of the Customer Solutions Operating Group of BAE Systems, Inc, which is a subsidiary of BAE Systems. Besides a central support staff, BAE-IT has three main divisions: Mission IT (containing the main lines of business: National Intelliegence Solutions, Defense Solutions, and Civilian Solutions), Global Analysis (a steadily growing division providing Analysis personnel and products who, in turn, provide assurance, support, and innovation to the government partners), and Enterprise IT (providing the full spectrum of IT services to US-based units of BAE Systems). BAE Systems North America (a wholly-owned subsidiary of BAE Systems plc) is a U.S. corporation and one of the Top 4 United State Defense Contractors.
