The school was founded in 1961. The origin of the school's name is believed to be an American Indian term for "windy hill".[1]

Athletics

Methacton teams currently compete in the Pioneer Athletic Conference. Up until the 2008-2009 school year, teams had competed in the Suburban One Athletic League.

The Methacton Field Hockey team was the first sport to claim the PAC-10, or Pioneer Athletic Conference, championship title, in fall 2008. In the prior year, the field hockey team made their first journey, in a number of years, to the State Championship, and lost in the first round to Emmaus. In spring of 2009, the Methacton Boys' Tennis Team became the second to earn a PAC-10 championship title by going 9-0 in the league. The team repeated it's undefeated league record and earned a second consecutive PAC-10 championship in 2010. Also, the Methacton Girls' Track and Field team clinched a tight win over Phoenixville and Springford to take home the PAC-10 title while the boys took a close second to Owen J. Roberts.

In the Winter of 2008, the Girls Basketball team recorded a perfect regular season at 24-0 and a Suburban One League Championship. The team was the #2 seed in the District 1 AAAA playoffs and made it to the District 1 Championship at Villanova University, but lost to #1 seed Downingtown East 40-38. The team then advanced to the Final 8 of the state playoffs before losing to Wilson West-Lawn. This was the girls basketball team's first ever appearance in the PA state playoffs. The team fininshed the season 30-2, the best record in school history. Renee Womack finished the season as the school's all-time girls basketball scorer with 1,682 points.

In the Winter of 2010, the Girls Basketball team advanced to their first PAC-10 championship but fell to Boyertown 35-29. During the season Lauren Ruhl became just the third girl in school history to score 1,000 points in a career. Ruhl finished her career with 1,316 points and the second leading girls scorer in school history. The program has reached the District playoffs sixth straight seasons dating back to 2005. They have won four straight opening round games. The coach for the past 9 seasons is Craig Kaminski who has a record of 129-100.

In the fall season of 2010, Methacton Girls Tennis Team won their very first PAC-10 championship title.

In the spring of 2011, the Methacton Girls Track and Field team won their 50th consecutive meet. They were Suburban One league champions for two consecutive years and closed out that conference undefeated. Upon entering the PAC-10 in 2008, the team went undefeated for the entire season and claimed the coveted PAC-10 champion title by less than half of a point. They kept their title in 2010 as well as 2011.
