Reni was an old town of the Churu district in Rajasthan, India. Reni was the headquarter of nizāmat and tehsil of the same name in the state of Bikaner in Rajputana, situated at 28° 41'N 75° 3'E, about 120 miles northeast of Bikaner city. The nizāmat consisted of five eastern tehsils of Bhadra, Churu, Nohar, Rajgarh and Reni.

History

It was part of Jangladesh and capital of the Jakhar gotra jat, rulers prior to its annexation by the Rathor rulers. The present name of the town is Taranagar.Taranagar is very old village and famous for its temples, ancient Havelies, paintings inside them and chatries. The wood work inside the hawelies is excellent.The most famous temple in the village is Jain Mandir built in 942. It has very old statues of jain's thirthkars and a history related to that.

One another famous temple is Shiv Pandia. Its history is old as Dwapar Yug. It is said that Kunti putra Bhima came there to call the pujari of temple, shiv pandia, for the Tilak ceremony of Yudhisthira after winning the battle of Mahabharat.

Banechand Kishanchand Chetandas Surana were "SETH" of Taranagar. They had good rapport with the King of Bikaner and had been honoured by the King. In times of needs they extended immense help to people at large irrespective of caste and creed by giving them money, grains, houses to live etc. In their noble tradition the present generation Khem Chand, Prakash Chand, Kuldeep, Alok, Munni Devi & Kiran Surana have constructed one Hospital cum Maternity Home in the memory of their forefather Seth Chetandas Surana named Seth Chetandas Surana Swasthya Kendra and donated the same to Rajasthan Government for treatment of public at large in addition to other acts of charities like construction of roads, cattle homes, organising free health and treatment camps, etc." 'Mr. Shree Madan Mohan Sharma is the X-Chairman of taranagar municipality. Now Dr.Bhanvar singh bhati is the chairman of taranagar municipality.

Sahawa is major village in Taranagar, Sahawa has got historical importance because of the Gurudwara, where the belief is this that 10th Sikh Guru - Guru Gobind Singh came. Sahawa is also very popular because of its POP (Plaster Of Paris) Industry.

Taranagar is a city and a municipality in Churu district in the Indian state of Rajasthan.

In Taranagar, 18% of the population is under 6 years of age.
