HMCS Provider (AOR 508)

HMCS Provider (AOR 508)

HMCS "Provider" was a Canadian "Provider"-class replenishment oiler. It was the first dedicated Auxiliary Oiler Replenishment ship commissioned for the Royal Canadian Navy in 1963. It was built by Davie Shipbuilding and Repairing Company Limited of Lauzon, Quebec.

Originally assigned to the East coast, its open deck made her vulnerable and it was re-assigned to the West coast.

The ship was decommissioned in 1998 and towed by the tug "Sirocco" to Turkey in 2002 for use as a barge, prior to being scrapped the following year.

Fairmile depot ship

HMCS "Provider" was also the name of one of two Fairmile depot ships commissioned by Canada in 1942, serving primarily in the Atlantic (North and South) during World War II.
