Tourist information

Maxixe is not a tourism hotspot in the sense that nearby Inhambane City is. It is however situated on the main road to the north, and is thus more of a through-route than Inhambane.

Good meals can be had in Capostino, as you enter town from Maputo on the right hand side. It has a blue wall. Do not let the looks deceive you when you enter, because the restaurant serves truly world class seafood. Rooms here are about 550 Meticais ($16) per night, but are VERY basic. No aircon and the mosquito nets are a bit shoddy.

In the main road there a restaurant called STOP. Capostino is both cheaper and better.

If you are a self-caterer driving through or looking for a retailer there is a shop called Taurus three blocks inland from the main road. It can be compared to a SPAR shop in South Africa. Very close to the Taurus is a bakery called Paderia Taj Mahal which sells very good bread. Bakeries in Mozambique are called Padaria.

For tourist groups looking for better, modern overnight accommodation there is an unmarked complex three blocks back called Complexo Sani. It consists of 10 x 2 bedroom houses each with a living room. There is aircon in the rooms and a nice swimming pool. Rooms have televisions. Prices are around $ 70 per 4 sleeper house per night.

20 kilometers from Maxixe is the organic processor called First Natural Choice. They produce Organic Food products for export to Europe. They offer organic products for sale at the small outlet in the front.
