Partapur is a town in Banswara District, Rajasthan, India.

History

Its foundation was laid by Parta Ji Patidar ("agrarian" in Hindi) with some tribals. Later on some other people also settled here .

Geography

Partapur is located at coord|23.6|N|74.17|E| [ [http://www.fallingrain.com/world/IN/24/Partapur.html Falling Rain Genomics, Inc - Partapur] ] . It has an average elevation of 164 metres (538 feet).

Demographics

As of 2001 India census [GR|India] , Partapur had a population of 9943. Males constitute 50% of the population and females 50%. Partapur has an average literacy rate of 70%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 77%, and female literacy is 63%. In Partapur, 14% of the population is under 6 years of age. It's a second largest town after Banswara in Banswara district.

In late eighties many of the people left for gulf countries in search of jobs and that brought prosperity to the village. It has now turned into a town after merger of nearby villages like Garhi, Navapadar, Kheran ka Parda etc.There are three big Hindu temples (Purneshwar, Bhagoreshwar, LakshmiNarayan) and four Jain temples, two mosques for all Muslims of the area and two mosque for Bohras .

Galiakot and Banswara are the two nearby religious places for the Bohras.Galiakot has the mazar of Syedi Fakhruddin Ash-Shaheed and Banswara has the mazar of Syedi Abde Rasul Ash-Shaheed.Bohras pay their homage to these mazars throuhgout the year and usually go there on Fridays.
