Veni Markovski

Veni Markovski (born April 3, 1968) is a Bulgarian Internet pioneer [ [http://www.icann.org/biog/markovski.htm ICANN | Biographical Data on Veni Markovski ] ] . He is a graduate of the Sofia UniversitySt. Kliment Ohridski” with Masters of Science degree in Law (1993)

Veni Markovski first came into contact with the Internet in September 1990, by becoming one of the first system operators of a Bulletin Board System, part of FidoNet in Sofia, Bulgaria.

By 1993 he has founded and until 2002 he was the CEO of the second in history of Bulgaria Internet Service Provider - BOL.BG, which was using the first Russian private network GlasNet [ [http://www.friends-partners.org/oldfriends/telecomm/nato/zaytsev.html Glasnet ] ] for its connection to the Internet [ [http://blog.icann.org/?p=91 ICANN Blog » Blog Archive » ICANN in Russia, April 2007 ] ] . In 1995 Markovski founded the Internet Society of Bulgaria - a non-profit think tank.

Veni Markovski has been Project Manager of a number of Free/Open Source Software projects, funded by the UNDP and the European Union.

As of 2006, Markovski became senior adviser on International Projects to the Chairman of the State Agency for IT and Communications to the Council of Ministers or Republic of Bulgaria. He is also ICANN's regional liaison for Russia and the CIS.

Markovski has been member of the Bulgarian delegation to the U.N. World Summit on Information Society (WSIS).

He is chairing the Bulgarian President's IT Advisory Committee.
